The wonderful folks at SLAP Magazine have been kind enough to do an interview and portfolio on me. If you're sadistic enough you can listen to the audio interview. Thanks a lot Mark and Josh.
Just returned home from two weeks in Phoenix and Albuquerque with Levi Brown, Chad TimTim, and Nick Garcia. Levi and Chad are working on filming for the upcoming Element Shoes video "Sole" and Nick is working on being an up and coming Am. While in Phoenix, we had a party for Levi in honor of his pro debut. Karaoke, free PBR, and lots of laughs. Congratulations Levi, you deserve all the best.
After 6 days of photographing over 60 people, we're just finishing up on Elements new Power to the Planet campaign. It was a wonderful experience to get to know and photograph such a huge array of talented folk, and I'm grateful to each and every one involved for bringing their good energy, intentions, and creativity to the shoot. The website has just launched so please take a look.
Just got home from a week of staying at Bam Margera's house working on a Transworld Article. Along for the ride were Darell Stanton, Chad TimTim, Mike V, Colin Provost, Brent Atchley, and Pedro Day. Lot's of good fun in the woods and always a treat to enjoy a real phillie cheese steak. Thanks to Bam and Missy and the whole family for their tremendous hospitality.
I almost forgot, the Element team came up to stay for about a week for some catalog and portrait work with Ray Barbee. Ray is a truly inspiring guitar player, honest human, and the nicest person around. He blessed our housewarming party with a solo guitar set. Thankyou Ray. -b
Many apologies for the long break since my last news. No time to sit in front of the computer lately. I've been working on a few Element catalogs and upcoming ad campaigns. Good fun and some days up in the snow at Big Bear. I've also been buried in construction work, fixing up a 100 year old farm house to live in as well as getting some nice gardens planted for summer, although you probably didn't need to know that.
Busy, busy. Just finishing up work on a shoot with Mark Gonzales in New Zealand for Adidas Originals. Mark will be the subject of a three minute web film on the Adidas site focusing on his latest project. The shoot was a blast and we even got to meet his new baby boy. Congratulations Mark!
Just got back from a nice weekend in Arizona where I began working on a full length interview with Element Am Levi Brown. We're off to a nice start so keep an eye out for it in the future. -b
Hello everyone and welcome to my little corner of the world. Snoop around all you like, I've tried to keep things simple here so you won't have to chase around some moving picture to click on it and win the prize of opening up one of my galleries. We're in the initial phase of the site right now so please do check in frequently and you'll find more things to read and look at. I'll keep you posted on anything noteworthy I promise. Thanks for checking in.

Mat O'Brien illustrator/painter and Brian Gaberman photographer team up and present Hug the Grey. The show is at Adobe Books (Oct. 20 - Nov. 20, 2006) which has a long tradition of showing "up and comers" in the S.F. art scene. Mat sells plants and plant related items during the day and draws his brians out during his off hours - as the evidence shows in the photos below. The guy is kinda nutty when it comes to detail and musical references; hopes, desires and the stuff of life fill his pieces. Not only does his work please the eye and make it observe every detail of his work, but it also ignites the brain to think and decipher the meanings behind the imagery. Or at least that what it does for me, for you it might make you want a fudgesicle.
Brian Gaberman takes photos for a living working for Skateboarder Magazine and Element Skateboards. His non-skate related work is amazing. Not only his composition and the actions related to taking the photo but also his darkroom technique is unparallel and makes him one of the best photographers working today. His contributions to Hug the Grey was of a personal nature. Photos of his pregnant wife, new born child and his first born provided an interesting contrast to Mat's usage of public persons like Frank Zappa and Morrissey. The few of Brian's photos that hug in the main room of the bookstore where older photos that, if I'm not mistaken were in his profile in Black and White Magazine a few years ago. It was great to see them in the flesh and if you can, you should make it down there to see them too. It's not often that Mat or Brian participate in art shows.
